Talk about unrealistic!

In a new interview, Christina Hendricks, 40, recalled her (understandably) stunned reaction to being asked to play 39-year-old Charlize Theron's mother in their upcoming movie Dark Places.

"I walked on set and they had just lost their other lead to play Charlize's mom," she explained during a recent sit-down on The Late Late Show with James Corden. "They said 'Would you consider taking on this role?' and I sort of just froze."

Thankfully, the Emmy nominee actually portrays Charlize's character's mom in flashbacks during the film — which hits theaters on Aug. 7 — making their one year age difference a little less strange!
